Canberra has long been Australia’s most active community. We have space for kids to get outside and play, we have facilities for locals to play the sports they love at any age, and we are home to elite athletes who are forging impressive careers and giving Canberrans local champions to cheer for.
The CBR Sport Awards has quickly become our night of nights, celebrating our sporting stars, our wonderful teams and our unsung heroes behind the scene. In 2018 we will also introduce a new category to acknowledge a Rising Star.
Since re-launch in 2016 the CBR Sport Awards has been warmly embraced by the sporting community and it is pleasing to see both the number and diversity of nominations, including for the annual People’s Sporting Champion, and the ACT Sport Hall of Fame.
Sport brings our community together, builds pride in our city and breaks down barriers of culture, class and gender. The Government’s support for sporting clubs, our investments in facilities and our particular focus on women in sport is helping Canberra become a healthier, more productive and more inclusive city.
I encourage our sporting community to get involved in these Awards. We can’t wait to celebrate your achievements, performances and contributions.
