Canberra Cavalry

The ABL Preliminary Finals was the marquee event of the Canberra Cavalry’s 2015/16 Season. The event displayed the Cavalry’s focus on creating a sports entertainment experience that focuses on the food, music, and constant entertainment as much as it does the elite baseball played on the field. The Cavalry is Baseball ACT’s strongest driver of participation by attracting a wide variety of Canberrans to the game and then inspiring them to join their local club to become part of the family. The Cavalry foster a unique sense of ownership in the Canberra community, which dates back to their founding in 2010 when the community showed enough support through the “Let’s Do It Canberra!” campaign to earn a team in the Australian Baseball League. The event got off to a wet start when a torrential thunderstorm hit and postponed the Saturday game after just 7 pitches. But that left 2 games to play in a double-header on Sunday and put on display the Cavalry’s flexibility in event hosting. While the Cavalry lost the series, the 1,800 faithful Cavalry fans gave a standing ovation to the grateful players after a day of singing, dancing, hot dogs, and baseball.
