24 hour mountain bike racing began in Canberra in 1999 and since then CORC has been at the vanguard of the sport. As the largest mountain bike club in Australia, CORC have developed the event over many years and seen many other clubs or professional promoters also stage 24 hour races. CORC’s Scott Australian 24 Hour Mountain Bike Championships have also been part of the world championships for this sport in 2010 and 2013 – events which saw over 10,000 people at the race. CORC was involved in the early development of Stromlo Forest Park as a post-bushfire project and continues to utilise Stromlo for all levels of mountain biking. As in previous years, the 2016 event bought many interstate and even international visitors to Canberra, providing an exciting way for people to explore the city. The event’s success is built on the local community proving volunteers and the support of local businesses lending a hand where possible. It is an event that all Canberra Mountain Bikers are proud to host on the tracks built and ridden on by locals of all skill and fitness levels.
