CBR Brave

Just one month out from the Australian Ice Hockey season, the Canberra Knights folded citing financial pressures after 33 years. When you combine passion, heart and hard work, it is true that anything is possible. This story is about a group of players and a community that never gave up. This story is about a couple of local guys and an insurance broker with no sports management experience who took on a seemingly impossible task and managed to pull the community, business and government together. This is a story about a broke and uncompetitive fringe team in a fringe sport, becoming a runaway success. This story is about a community becoming one big family. Enter the CBR BRAVE. In just three seasons, this team has competed in successive finals campaigns including the Grand Final in 2016 – the only time a Canberra side has made a Grand Final in the national competition. The BRAVE has attracted players domestically and internationally and secured sponsors of the caliber of McDonalds, Canberra Toyota, Casino Canberra and Anytime Fitness. Fans old and new from all walks of life pack into Phillip Swimming and Ice Skating Centre which they now affectionately refer to as the BRAVE CAVE.
