Keith Carnall

Keith Carnall was an exceptional sportsman, having the talent to excel at anything he set his mind to. Most notably Keith represented Canberra, excelling in Australian football, cricket, tennis, and hockey as well as being an enthusiastic golfer. He established two cricket records that will never be broken, scoring the first ever century and hitting the first six at the Manuka ground. From an administrative perspective Keith was a member of the first committee of the Ainslie Football Club, a League delegate, and was also Secretary of the ACT Lawn Tennis Association, serving as a tennis administrator for a total of 21 years. Demonstrative of his all round commitment to sport, Keith was a representative on numerous other ACT Sporting Boards, serving as President of Ainslie Hockey Club and as Secretary of the Northbourne Cricket Club. Whilst representing the ACT in a number of cricket matches in a career spanning from 1923 until 1946, Keith was also a dedicated coach in cricket and tennis. He was a member of the Light Horse Troop, acting as Ringmaster and also Treasurer. As a testament to his contribution to sport, Keith was awarded Life Membership to the ACT Lawn Tennis Association, Reid Tennis Club, and the Royal and New South Wales Institute for Deaf and Blind.
