As Boxing ACT’s most senior referee and its Director of Refereeing/Judging, Carl Ruhen has for many years trained, mentored and encouraged new boxing judges and referees, assisting them to develop the skills and confidence to be capable officials. Carl’s commitment and dedication has been central to ensuring that Boxing ACT has had a continuous cohort of competent officials, without which safe and healthy competition would not be possible. His skills and capability have been honed over nearly two decades through intensive experience locally, at numerous national events around the country, and at major international championship events.
Carl was one of three Australian officials selected to referee and judge at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Even amongst this elite group of international officials, Carl’s outstanding professional competency stood out, as he was one of the few individuals selected to officiate during the gold-medal bouts. Carl’s commitment and excellence have been critical for the operation of Boxing ACT locally and brought credit to Boxing Australia internationally.
